Hi — thanks a ton for the feature request and for being a Tally user! We love hearing from you. ✌️
In addition to what has been said, full 'block randomization' would be very useful. For example if you want to show 3 product ideas (or campaigns, designs, ...) and have your customer evaluate them. In such case, there is a huge order effect. So you want to randomize the order of full blocks (e.g. an image and two questions about that image).
Hey Peter — could you please share your form link here or reach out to our Support team so we can take a closer look? Randomizing options should still work: when you add a multiple-choice question, you can toggle “Randomize options” in the sidebar, and it should shuffle them automatically. If it’s not working as expected, please send us more details (screenshots, form link, etc.) so we can help you troubleshoot it directly. https://tally.so/support
Thanks for the suggestion! 🙏 While we don’t support true random assignment yet, you can achieve something similar with Conditional Logic: https://tally.so/help/conditional-form-logic For example, at the start of the survey you could ask respondents to pick a number (e.g. 1–10) and then use conditional rules to branch them into different question groups (e.g. 1–5 → Group A, 6–10 → Group B). It’s not automatic randomization, but it can help distribute respondents across blocks of questions. We’ve noted your request, and if you’d like help setting up a workaround, feel free to reach out to support: https://tally.so/support
I'm also not interested in a random order, but in a random selection of a larger number of questions. This does not exist yet, but is varied if people are to conduct a survey more often, e.g. in the creative sector.
Yes please!
yes, very very useful complement to quiz format. I have questions that are mapped according to difficulty levels or course level too. For e.g., Questions 1 to 10 are for easy, questions 11 to 20 are for intermediate and 21 to 40 are for advanced. Each group can have random questions picked up from a much larger group, so all the students don't get the same questions.
It would be great to implement
It would be great to implement a system for randomly submitting questions from a pool of questions. For example, in a pool of 300 questions, the respondent is presented with only 30 of them in the previously selected category
This, so much this. You may understand this as randomizing the "order" at which questions on some block section are presented, which is also usefull to avoid some bias. However, in our case, we want to have a list of lot of questions and randomly pick just a few to present a user. Additionally we would like to make the list be filtered based on previously picked questions, so as to users that marked "No" on a question of "Owning a tablet" don't see tablet-related questions. Although we can do much with the current conditional logic and pre-filled hidden fields, it would be neat to not convolute the forms. Thanks for your work!
Love Tally so far, but really miss a random order feature. In our use case, we would love to have combine random order of questions with a block or group feature and a toggle for one question per screen - så that i we could add multiple questions on a page/in a group, have the order of those questions be random, but only one quetsion visible at the time for the respondant.
