Limit Number of Submissions per Option

I would like to be able to limit the number of submissions for a given option (inventory/quota). For example, if I were trying to create a signup form with a limited number of attendees per time slot, I'd like to be able to set a limit to say only 5 submissions for a certain drop down choice. A specific example: Creating a signup form for a class at 10:00am, 11:00am, and 12:00pm. Each class has a limit of 5 attendees except for 12:00pm, which has a limit of 8 attendees. In this case, I'd like to be able to create a dropdown to select a class time and place a limit so that there can only be 5 submissions that chose 10:00am, 5 submissions that chose 11:00am, and 8 submissions that chose 12:00pm. Ideally, the option in the dropdown should show how many slots are still available and if a slot is full.

Hi there, Good news — this is already possible in Tally, so you don't need to wait on a feature request! For both Multiple choice and Multi-select questions, you can limit how many options a respondent picks: Click the ⠿ (block handle) on the left of your question to open the block settings. Enable Multiple selection. Once that's on, you'll be able to set a minimum and maximum number of answer options. If a respondent selects too few or too many, Tally shows an error message when they click Next. You can read more here: https://tally.so/help/multiple-choice https://tally.so/help/dropdown So you can set the exact quantity limit you're after with the min/max choice settings.

I don't think this adresses his request. If i have to use the image you send, there are 5 apples and pears available, and 8 bananas. I don't want people to submit for more apples, pears and banana's than in stock. Ideally it comes with a sort of "choice elimination". When one person select 8 banana's, the option banana should dissappear after submitting. Or when 4 persons order 2 banana's each, it also should dissappear while the apples and pears should still be visible. Hope this make sense.

Hey team, just wanted to add a comment in support for a limited-resource feature. Our specific request can be found on Reddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/TallyForms/comments/1t6rgye/simple_… The goal is for us to be able to do simple event registrations with limited ticket availability with Tally.

Hola!

I need this option so bad. I am making a sign-up form and this will save so much time. I would pay for it.

Hi Anthony! Thanks so much for the suggestion regarding locking answers — we really appreciate the feedback on maintaining quiz integrity. While we don’t have a native "lock" feature for individual questions yet, we have a workaround that is quite effective in this scenario. You can hide the Back button on your form so respondents cannot navigate to previous pages to change their answers. To achieve this, you can use the following Custom CSS snippet: .tally-back-button { display: none; } Just a quick note: Injecting custom CSS is a Tally Pro feature. if you need any additional help implementing this workaround just send us a quick note via https://tally.so/support.

Hi Tally Team, Thanks so much for the detailed reply and for sharing the workaround, that makes sense and I appreciate the clarity around how to achieve it. I did want to ask one quick follow up question. Is locking answers per question or per page something that’s on the product roadmap, or something your team is considering as a native feature in the future? The use case for us is assessments and training style quizzes where answer integrity is pretty important, so having this built in would be incredibly valuable and would remove the need for CSS based workarounds, this is a huge deciding factor for which form site we plant to use long term. Totally understand if it’s not planned yet, but I’d love to know whether it’s something that’s been discussed internally. Thanks again for the support, really enjoying working with Tally so far. Best, Anthony

Hi Anthony, Thank you for the thoughtful follow-up. At the moment, locking answers per question or per page isn’t something we actively plan to implement in the near future, though that could always change. We regularly reassess priorities based on demand and real-world use cases like yours. We keep our public Roadmap up to date so users can see, firsthand, which features we’re actively working on and what’s coming next: https://tally.so/roadmap. In 2026, our focus is on prioritizing the most highly requested features and continuing to improve the overall Tally experience. We really appreciate you sharing your use case, as this kind of feedback helps inform future decisions. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.

Just wondering if we have this feature already or the timeline we're planning to have this? Much love for Tally Formss!

Thanks so much for the suggestion, Louan! This is a great idea, especially for use cases like event registrations or limited-capacity sign-ups. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback — it's definitely noted.

Hey Yan — thanks a ton for the feature request and for being a Tally user! We love hearing how you're using it for event planning. 🙌 Limiting the number of responses per choice is a popular request, appreciate you sharing this with us!

Jun 20, 2025

Hello. I have the same need to put a limit on an event per date. So, hope something will be created soon! :o)

Jun 19, 2025

Hey Adi! You can definitely limit respondents to selecting exactly 2 options using the “limit number of answers” setting on a multiple choice or multi-select block — here’s how: https://tally.so/help/multiple-choice#8d98b6d29bd048e494cf5e… or https://tally.so/help/multi-select However, it’s currently not possible to set a per-option limit (like hiding an option after 80 people have selected it). That’s not supported at the moment, but we’ll keep your use case in mind as we continue improving Tally. If you need help setting up the selection limit or anything else, feel free to reach out to Tally Support — we’re here to help! https://tally.so/support

Hi all, FYI - a Tally user reached out to me to share they were able to set this up themselves using our API. If you feel like giving that a try on your own form, don't hesitate to apply for API private beta access here: https://apply.tally.so/api

May 6, 2025

Frederik Simoen Hi Simeon, is it possible to know how the user was able to achieve this?

May 14, 2025

Oreofeoluwapo Olutola using the API you can remove or hide options (blocks) based on your own business logic.

I'd like this same feature for a different function such as inventory tracking. If I had 1 pear, 2 apples, and 3 bananas; I would like for the form to hide the options after any given one has been submitted 'x' amount of times. For example, if 2 people submit a form with the "Apple" option from a dropdown, then the next person to open the form will only see pears and bananas as an option to select. Ideally, this feature would appear on the left as a pop-up menu with the six dots, similar to the "Placeholder" and "Min/Max characters" dialogue boxes. I have tried to execute this with calculated fields and conditional logic, but they seem to operate based on each submission, rather than a macro view of all orders to be able to hide options.

Oct 17, 2024

PLZZZZ consider this. at the moment i have to use the JotForm gift function in the form builder to achieve the desired effect.

Oct 11, 2024

This feature would easily allow for someone to purchase multiple tickets to an event that only has a maximum number of tickets available.

Oct 4, 2024

If they added this, they would make my rating from a 9/10 to a 10000000/10 😁😁

Same! I'm quite a power user and the lack of quota setting is the only reason why I'm not switching yet. Please please develop this option!

Jun 22, 2024

I guess this is - more generalized - a block where answer options come from a table (aka a shared resource). For which then, through options, can be configured whether an option can only be selected once or not. And if people can select only one, or multiple options. And whether the answer options are yes-no or yes-no-maybe And some tooling for easily generating the answer options based on calendar selections.

Jun 12, 2024

please add this. it will be awesome.

May 5, 2024

This will be very useful. I'm thinking about building sign up forms and there will be different positions. I wonder if it's possible to do this somehow? I can only think of using multiple forms to achieve this.

Jan 28, 2025

Ethan Kao Agreed! And this is a total waste of time

I have the exact same question !
