Better Visualization for “Other” Responses
Hi Tally team,First of all, I really enjoy using Tally — it’s been a great tool for forms and data collection.I’d like to share a product suggestion that could significantly improve the analysis experience for open-ended responses in “Other” options. At the moment, when respondents select “Other” and write their own answer, it’s a bit difficult to quickly review and analyze these responses. In the current results view, the custom answers are not easy to visualize in a practical way, which makes it harder to extract insights — especially when understanding these answers is essential for decision-making.Additionally, when exporting the full spreadsheet, these responses often appear mixed with the rest of the data, which also makes the review process less intuitive. My suggestion would be to create a more practical and dedicated way to visualize “Other” responses, such as:- a separate, easy-to-scan section- a searchable response panel- grouped cards or list view for custom answers- clearer separation in exportsThis would make qualitative analysis much faster and more user-friendly.I’m attaching a reference image of a layout style that makes these responses much easier to view and understand. Photo 1 shows how it currently looks in Tally, and Photo 2 is a reference for a much easier way to view it.
I believe this small improvement could create a big impact in usability. Thanks for building such a great product.

Hi Nova, Thank you so much for your thoughtful suggestion — we really appreciate you taking the time to share this with us! It’s great to hear you’re enjoying Tally 🙌 While we don’t currently have a native feature that visualizes these responses in a more structured way, there is a workaround you can use to make things more manageable. One option is to guide users more specifically when they select “Other” by using conditional logic. Here’s how you can set it up: Add your “Other” option in a multiple choice block. Create a second multiple choice block with more specific follow-up options (e.g. “Do you mean this category, this one, or this one?”). Hide this second block. Use conditional logic to show it only when “Other” is selected. This way, instead of collecting completely open-ended responses, you can structure them further and make analysis easier. You can check out our guide on how to set this up here: https://tally.so/help/conditional-form-logic That said, we completely understand your suggestion. Thanks again for sharing this, it really helps us keep improving the product. If you need any help setting this up, feel free to reach out to us here: https://tally.so/support
